The Royal Hospital Chelsea is a true hospital in the original sense of the word, providing hospitality and a home for over 300 members of the Armed Forces, fondly known as the Chelsea Pensioners.
Iconic architecture surrounds pristinely maintained grounds that host the RHS Chelsea Flower Show annually. With the facilities being upgraded to meet the needs of the 21st Century, RHC has embarked on many successful projects, amongst others delivering a solid site wide Wi-Fi network.
Contacting Haptic to propose a WiFi solution that would provide coverage for the Chelsea Pensioner’s many mobile devices was ICT Manager, Isabel Prieto-Cordero.
Of all the many points we had to consider, the building itself was key. Any of the works had to take account of the listed structure. From its distinctive red brick exterior to its beautifully designed interiors the Royal Hospital remains a remarkable and historical building.
Installing a robust and reliable WiFi network throughout the main hospital building was imperative. The staff and residents are just as dependent on the internet as many other walks of life these days. We wanted to be able to provide residents and visitors to the hospital with seamless access to WiFi, and Haptic were excellent to work with; they clearly demonstrated expertise with the technology being used.
"Maximising the coverage and user experience whilst using considerably less hardware than its rivals made Ruckus the obvious choice. Deploying a ZoneDirector 1100 series alongside a number of 7363 Access points meant that even in an environment that was densely constructed a strong signal was received by all intended.
Taking the up most care and attention to the interior aesthetic led to the solution being installed by Haptic with no disruption or alteration to the building or its occupants.
Haptic’s projects have continuously been many and varied, however the solution we created and working with the IT Staff at RHC (not forgetting of course the Chelsea Pensioners themselves) has led to this being one of our favourite successes to date.
